NLP through stories — story 43

A cat and a fox were exchanging views upon the difficulties of living in peace and guarding from predators.
The fox said, ” I do not care a bit for any of them; things may be bad;
I have thousand one tricks to show my enemies before they can harm me”

“you are very fortunate” replied the cat with a bit of jealousy and feeling low, ” I have only one way of evading enemies only way to escape”

The fox said, ” I am sorry for you with all my heart. Don’t worry when enemies come I will teach you one of my techniques.

Hardly had he finished  this a pack of hounds suddenly burst upon them.
The cat resorted to her single trick of climbing the tree for safety.
From there he watched what happened.
The fox not able to make up his mind which trick to use lost its time and was caught by the pack of hounds

Knowledge merely intellectualized does not come to rescue at times of danger or emergency.
During crisis it is the habit pattern that manifests.

Life is not a seminar where you sit safely and debate leisurely.
Life is to be lived meeting contingencies & emergencies as they appear at unexpected moments.
Life always bristles with problems of varying magnitude.
The process of surmounting problems constitutes progress in life.

In order to progress knowledge must be internalized,
knowledge must get into your bones & flesh and cell and blood.

In NLP this internalized knowledge is said as UNCONSCIOUS COMPETENCE.
Only unconscious competence gives spontaneity in action.
‘thought proof action’

Doing alone  gives unconscious competence.
The great end of life is not knowledge but action says Tony Robbins.

Bruce Lee says, ” I am not afraid of the man  who has practiced 10000 kicks once; I am afraid of the man who has practiced one kick 10000 times”
yes power of precision, spontaneous & swift action without deliberation contemplation at the time of action..

NLP stresses upon unconscious competence..
Practice is essential for this.
It is in doing that one gains mastery.
Lest it is merely ‘mouthing’
 Be a man of action.

NLP through stories – Story 42

A sculptor started carving two statues of the same model.
One he was making it at his backyard all alone.
The other he was making at the front yard of his house.
His friends acquaintance passers by , whoever dropped in observing the making of a statue started giving suggestions to the sculptor to modify the look size shape of the statue;
one suggested to keep a parrot on the shoulder, an army man suggested to keep a gun, one said of special boot,  a beggar suggested give a bowl,  – each offered ‘valuable’ suggestion.
The sculptor without refusing any suggestion accommodated all the requests & suggestions.
The other statue at the backyard he was making all alone by his own choice & with his own idea.

After finishing both, he kept them for public view.
Everyone praised what the sculptor made all by himself.
The other one made as per the wishes of others was very ugly and everyone detested.

NLP says of Metaprogram, a filter to understand and interpret events.
One of the filters is Frame of referenceInternal reference/ External reference.

Internal reference is people relying on their internal feedback, (self evaluation & self understanding) than depending on external feedback;
External reference is relying more on others opinion & approval for your worth & merit.

Though it is a continuum, yet people have preferred way of filtering events, a dominant filter;
we can say innie or outie

Fact is no two people see the world with same eyes
Hence to rely excessively on others opinions & advice may lead us to go astray,
like the statue kept at front yard becoming ugly and distasteful;
If you rely purely on others opinion it is only a matter of chance for you to get the best.

To rely more on your internal feedback and go by intuition is suggested for excellence in work.
It is inner excellence at work often produces remarkable result.
Listen to yourself; that is where answer to all your life’s problem comes.
People who listen to themselves don’t often come to regret.
Be your guide.
NLP emphasizes that.
You are already your master.
VRnlp makes you realize that.

NLP through stories _ story 41

Emperor Akbar came up with a strange idea.
He
invited the heads of the village and said, “I shall give a goat to each
one of you.
You must feed them well. Take good care of them. The cost is
my responsibility.
You must return the goats after one month.
But when
you return, the goats should weigh the same as they are today.”

The village heads wondered how this would be possible. Many did not accept the challenge.

Somehow, Birbal came to know about this. He prevailed on village head and made him accept the challenge.
“Patelji, do not worry about what the Emperor has said. Just take good care of the goat,” said Birbal.

“In that case, the goat will grow fat.” said the village head

“There
is a solution for that. On the outskirts of the village, there is a
lion in the cage. Tie up this goat just a little way of from the lion. Rest will be taken care of ”
said Birbal.

 The Patel followed Birbal’s instruction. Even after one month the goat did not gain weight.
Akbar was pleased and understood it must have been the idea of Birbal.

The story clearly indicates the power of toxic emotions in us.
why did the goat not gain weight, though well taken care of?
Due to fear and insecurity, the goat did not gain an ounce of weight.
Though the lion was inside the cage it was actually living inside the mind space of the goat.
That fear sapped the energy vitality and peace of the goat.
That is why NLP says
“PEOPLE DON’T LACK RESOURCES; PEOPLE LACK RESOURCEFUL STATE OF MIND”
NLP always asks a question,” Before embarking on a task or responding to a situation ask ” Am I in a resourceful state of mind?”
If so proceed; if not add resource, become  resourceful and respond for best result.
VRnlp gives resourceful state of mind.

NLP through stories -Story 40

 Sanjeevani is a magical herb
which has the power to cure any malady.
It is believed that medicines
prepared from this herb could revive a dead person.
This herb is
mentioned in the great epic Ramayana,  when Ravana’s  son Indrajit  hurls a powerful weapon at  Lakshmana & he is badly wounded and is nearly killed by Indrajeet. Hanuman is called upon to fetch this herb from the mount Dunagiri  (Mahodaya) in the Himalayas. That too Hanuman must bring the herb before sunrise;
only then Lakshamana can be saved.
Upon reaching Mount Sumeru, Hanuman is unable to identify the herb and
and so Hanuman decides to lift the entire mountain and so Hanuman carries the entire mountain and brings to battlefield; as Hanuman approaches the battlefield, the smell of the Sanjeevini herb brings Lakshamana to consciousness.

This is really an inspiring story for me.
To me it teaches an important principle of NLP.
Hanuman here though goes to fetch the herb from the mountain, upon reaching there he does not remember the details of herb to identify.
He does not hesitate or feel dispirited.
He does not return to battlefield located far south and say “Sorry I dont know, tell me again”
Time is a factor; he has to do something.
Instead of sitting under the excuse that he does not have clear details, he does what he knows at that time and gets into action doing something towards intended purpose.
Once it is done, that is carrying the very mountain that contains the herb,
Jambavan there identifies and saves Lakshmana.

Same way in life even when you dont have full clear details on hand, still get into action do something towards goal/outcome with what you know at that time;
that can help you to move ahead and many may come to your aid to reach your goal once they know you are commtted.
The principle of NLP
” It is not necessary to know everything beforehand to be able to use everything.”
“It is not necessary to understand everything to be able to use everything”

Begin with what you know and things will roll out as you progress.
End & aim of life is not knowledge but action.
Action alone cures.
Hanuman gives you strength for action & success.
VRnlp makes it happen.

NLP through stories – Story 39

“Everybody other than me is very happy”

” It is because they have learned to notice acknowledge and appreciate what is beautiful;
and so they are happy”

” I am not able to find  beauty & joy around anywhere”

” It is because you have failed to appreciate the beauty &
joy within you & so you fail to notice even outside”

Is it not enlightening??
The world is only a reflection of our mind.
How we are inside is what is reflected outside.
Every cell of being contains the same energy of your entire being;
and your entire being carries the same  energy of universal being.
Hence NLP says reality to an individual is how she has personalized or customized;
whole of NLP is helping an individual to alter or modify the map as appropriately as possible
to keep the person in an empowering state of mind.

NLP through stories -story 38

Ospensky was a Russian philosopher.
He had written many books. One day he went to meet Gurdjeff, a french saint.

Ospensky said to Gurdjeff  they should sit together & talk a lot.
Gurdjeff then handed over to Ospensky a piece of paper and asked him to note down what he knew & what he did not know and that they could begin the talk on what Ospensky did not know.
Ospensky then started thinking on subject after subject;
everything seemed to be elusive;
he could not say he knew fully well;

he could not say he did not know at all;
Ospensky was really confused and said to Gurdjeff, ” I am not sure of anything”
Gurdjeff then said,” without being of sure of anything how did you write so many books?
Ospensky thought for a moment & acknowledged, ” yes you are right; I started building castles of words without solid foundation of substance. Now I understand the importance of TRUTH”

Authenticity;
knowledge must get into your bones; only then learning is beneficial.
Particularly when it comes to learning & benefitting from NLP, learning by doing is very very important;
it has whole lot of benefit.
NLP is not just a set of techniques.
NLP is methodology, a process for personal and organisational change.
Integrity, Honesty is very important.
Memorizing a few  terms & parrot like repetition in class room is not mastery;
it is just impressionism.
When put to test in real life situation the gas will be out.
According to me clamoring for certificate & just completing a NLP course is only an empty sound.
Real strength lies in real learning & practice.

Die Hard Pessimist?

Die hard pessimist?

In my recent NLP workshop I had an interesting experience.

It was an eye opener for me; a little challenging too.

I was deliberating on presuppositions (principles) of NLP.

One of the presuppositions is “if one can do, anyone can do”

This principle is the basis for modeling, the very core principle of NLP.

Based on this belief if one can attempt to copy an achiever, chances of succeeding in the attempt are very high.

It is no high five stuff peculiar to NLP; it is the way species on earth including man learn from predecessor.
Watch children how they learn to imitate parents;
you go to a new place, you are not sure of the custom of people there,
you watch for some time and start following the most popular practice.

NLP has taken this as one of its principle.

In fact presuppositions of NLP are taken to be true and proceeded to verify the validity.
In most cases the belief turns out to be true.

Now this person in my workshop refused to accept “If one can do anyone can do”;
he said, “Not all can become CEO of an organization; not all can become President; a person with lower IQ cannot achieve like a person with higher IQ”

He is very strong in his conviction.
His belief system says clearly to him that achievement, success is all possible only for a select few who are brainy.

I could not make him understand due to time constraint considering the purpose & focus of the workshop.
I have decided to spend time with him to make him understand an alternate empowering way that this presupposition suggests.

At the same time he has given me an opportunity to understand the map of ‘these’ die hard pessimists & find ways to enter their map.   In what way I can match them to mismatch or in what I can pace to lead them to empowerment.

The point here is if one can do something any one can do the same thing or even better;
at the same time it is not compulsory that we should do that same task for the sake of this saying.

The words POSSIBILITY & PROBABILITY are not synonymous.

The presupposition here ‘If one can do any one can do” says of the POSSIBILITY of repeating the task;
it is not impossible; if one determines to do the task it can become a reality sooner or later;
it is all a question of time & effort & perseverance.
We may differ in our ability to accomplish the task;
there may be variance in the pace of doing the task;
people with skill shrewdness may complete it faster,
people with lesser acquaintance may take more time,
yet it is possible to do the task; perhaps the price to be paid may be more.

At the same time the probability of a task happening in a given circumstance may be nil;

For example in a democratic set up every citizen of the country has the right to become PRESIDENT of the country.
Here we say of POSSIBILITY; yet given the circumstance not all have the probability of becoming PRESIDENT.

It is common sense that unless we believe that it is possible for us to do we will not even attempt at doing anything new or learn anything new.

This principle is relevant to our every day context and it is human to dream within the realms of one’s experience & calculation.

If Abdul Kalam became the President of India, even I can become given the time, effort & resource;
yet I don’t need to choose to become President; or even if I choose to become one I may not become immediately;
yet it is not that I can’t become.

If we have this understanding a lot we can do in life.

Coming to this person’s conviction I only said
‘‘You are right; like many can decide to be in status quo, you too can be so, by your choice’

“If one can do anyone can do to succeed & grow”

NLP through stories — Story 37

This cap seller story most of us know.
The cap seller takes rest under a tree and dozes off.
The monkeys above each take one cap and
wears it imitating the cap seller who is wearing a cap.

The cap seller wakes up to find that the cap is now stuck with monkeys.
He does not fight with the monkeys.
He understands the psyche of the monkey and so throws his cap into the basket;
seeing this the monkeys also throw the cap into the basket.
Gathering the caps the seller happily goes his way to continue selling.

This story normally said for fun and the thoughtless imitation of monkeys.
Underlying this decision of the cap seller to employ the trick of throwing cap into the basket to retrieve caps from monkeys lies a deeper mind set most welcome and to be imbibed or copied like monkeys copying the seller.
It is the ‘RESOURCEFULNESS’ or RESOURCEFUL STATE of mind by the cap seller despite difficulty based by him.
His life & day’s earning depends on his days sales; yet he does not lose hope when he sees his caps are hijacked by monkeys.
He uses his brain, find an idea and tactfully retrieves his stock.
We can say he was positive even in the face of difficulty;
In NLP it is said to be resourceful state of mind.
NLP gives you resourceful state of mind.
VRnlp makes it happen.

NLP through stories -story 36

According to Hindu purana ages before Devas(gods) and Asuras(demons) joined hands to churn NECTAR out of  OCEAN of MILK with snake Vasuki as rope and Mount Meru for churning
Divine Cow Divine Elephant, Divine Horse, and many more came out before finally NECTAR coming out.
The one that came initially was POISON.

On rush of poison was so terrifying that even gods& demons were terrified;
Lord Shiva comes to their rescue and drinks the poison to save the world.

Parvati Mata holds the neck of Lord Shiva and prevents poison entering into Lord Shiva’s stomach; so the neck of Lord Shiva turns blue, hence HE is called as NEELAKANTA, blue-throated lord.

The moral that we must bear in mind here is though the purpose was to extract nectar what came initially was POISON; it was Lord Shiva who rescued them; also Devas & Asuras were knowing what a Nectar was, they did not mistake poison to be nectar, which means they were aware of how a poison would be.

The lesson here in life when we embark on a mission, initially we may have to face opposition& resistance, not necessarily encouragement.
We must be ready like Lord Shiva to gulp down resistance, lest we may be swayed from purpose.
Also we must know what the outcome is, how to identify the outcome, what eveidence we have to know it is outcome.
Equally & much more even, we must be outcome oriented , meaning we must bear in mind the purpose of a process; only then when distractions come in between we will stay on purpose even when when we are busy with process.
NLP is outcome oriented; (for what purpose?)
NLP also advocates on feedback (what sensory inputs you get as evidence)

Be ready for challenges on your road to Success wealth Prosperity.

NLP through stories – Story 35

Punishment or stick ?
Rabindranath Tagore was attending a meeting of the teachers. After discussion on trends & qualities of literature, Rabindranath suddenly addressed a person, ” Nepal Babu, you have become forgetful these days. So I shall give you ‘dand’
Nepal Babu was perplexed  and the gathering also could not comprehend the outburst of the poet.
At that time Tagore took out a stick & gave it to Nepal with this remark,” you had forgotten this stick at my place yesterday. So please take your stick.
It was the that people assembled there understood Tagore’s joke.
‘DAND’ means PUNISHMENT as well STICK..

It is pun, right???
In a sense NLP employs this pun appropriately as conversational reframing;
conversational reframing is done to shift the focus or perception of the subject by a twist.
Sleight of Mouth pattern in NLP helps subjects get out of stuck state and
empowers them by surprisingly providing a new meaning to the same context.
