NLP through stories -Story 17

Sufi Bayazid said,
” When I was young I was revolutionary  I prayed to God thus
“God Give me the power to change the world”

Even after reaching middle age I could not change anybody; so I made a change in my prayer, ” God give me the power to change my near & dear”
Even that was not possible for me to change them,
Now I pray,” Lord, Give me the power to change what all I can change in me”
If I had had this maturity when I was young a lot I would have accomplished perhaps.

“Be the change you want to see in the world” said Gandhiji.
The only change you can certainly make in this world is making changes in you.
It is within your control and it is what first matters.
NLP also emphasizes the same.
NLP says your worls is your map, perceived reality.
Whatever change you want to bring make changes in your perceived reality, then the world changes.
VRnlp makes it happen.

NLP through stories – story 16

A young couple won a prize in a weekly magazine and were interviewed by a correspondent.
“How long have you been married?” reporter asked.
“Two & half years now” replied the husband.
”no no three years it is fast approaching” quickly corrected his wife.
“It doesn’t matter much” said the correspondent
“How can you say? It does matter to me; I am already demanding a necklace for the 3rd anniversary” retorted the wife.

People have their own agenda. People understand & respond based on their conviction convenience & expectation.
In the interaction with people an intelligent approach NLP advises is to ask questions for what purpose they say so. Instead of jumping to conclusion understanding their beliefs && expectations can help to interact initiate lead and form a workable relationship or a better equation.
The belief of NLP here is “PEOPLE RESPOND TO THEIR MAP ONLY”

NLP through stories -story 15

Sage Narad came to meet Lord Shiva with a mango fruit.
Handing over the fruit he said,” This a Wisdom fruit”
Shiva handed down the fruit to Parvathi Devi.
Being a mother she called her two sons Ganapathy & Muruga and
instructed them to share it equally.
Lord Shiva objected to this & said,”One should take the fruit fully;no dividing it”

Then they came up with the idea of contest.
‘Whoever comes around the world first will get this fruit’

Lord Muruga immedaiately rushed riding on his peacock.
Lord Ganapathy thought for a while & asked a question,
“Is there any connection between the world & my parents?”

“Your parents are the world” replied Narad;
“Then going around my parents tantamounts to going around the world, right?” asked Ganapathy.

“YES” said Narad.
Then Lord Ganapathy went around his parents and got the fruit as prize.

This is an ancient puranic story.
The message that we get from this story is really brilliant.
Indeed Lord Muruga did a verbatum job. whereas Lord Ganapathy thought for a while and used his creativity to arrive at a novel way of doing the task.
He found one and did a smart work.

This event also iindicates Stephen Covey’s law, “BEGIN WITH THE END IN MIND”
 It is not just hard work but smart work that fetches result faster these days.
To have smart brain one should deploy libeally the use of right brain.
NLP relies heavily on the use of right brain.
NLP has a number of tools to activate right brain.
With NLP one can be smart & effective.

NLP through stories -story 14

A overzealous man went to a master and asked,
” How long will it take for me to gain wisdom?”
Master replied,” ten years”

Shocked by the answer the man impulsively asked,”ten years? so long?”
Master said,” sorry I was wrong; it’s not 10 years; you will take 20 years”
Man asked,” why have you doubled it now?”
Master said,”now when I think of the possibility, you will take 30 years to attain wisdom”

Maturity wisdom enlightenment- these are not like train journey to predict scheduled arrival;
it is inner awakening; journey within to be figured out by the individual.
It is more an attitude with fullest faith in the process.
What is needed is Patience & Perseverance.
If one can surrender to the process enlightenment is sure to come.

This attitude of opening out from within is what is required to gain mastery in NLP.
NLP course is not just syllabus to be covered and claim authority with a certificate on hand.
It is journey of joyful discovery;
Many seekers of NLP learning express their impatience to go through the learning process and
want everything in one gulp & go.
NLP is not a syllabus to be covered.
NLP is a process for self discovery;
it is process to appreciate your core being;
it is a journey of discovering your latent talent  and
manifesting in appropriate way in a resourceful state.
when it comes to learning NLP, Never Lose Patience

NLP through stories -story 13

A man took his brother to a doctor.

“Doctor ! My brother complaints of feeling sleepy when he gets into the bus. Can you do something?”

Doctor with a sarcasm, ” Dont say all these are a complaint; If he feels sleepy, let him happily sleep during the bus journey.”

The man shockingly replied,” Doctor, what will be the fate of passenger if the bus driver feels sleepy? My brother is a bus driver”

ECOLOGY. This word plays an important part in all NLP interventions.
All actions have consequence beyond their specific context. Ecology is a concern for overall system.
NLP advises you to make an ecology check
whenever you bring in change;
An ecology check is done to ensure that the change you bring in does good to even those around you and does not give room for your benefit alone at the cost of others around you and also personally for you a short term gain does not become a long term problem.
Ecology is important for organizations too. A big leap in sales may result in smooth sail in the coming months.
Over enthusiasm become counter productive.

NLP through stories – story 12

A man becomes very weak sick & serious.
His wife rushes him to a hospital.
Put in ICU the team of doctors examine the sick man.
Seeing him motionless the chief doctor calls his wife & says,
“sorry madam; your husband is dead.”

At that time the wife feels a pull from behind;
her husband in a very feeble voice says,” No; I am alive; I am alive”

The wife snubs him,”keep quite; Doctor is an expert; he knows better”

Excessively relying on expert opinion sometimes may become very dangerous.
Opinion is a opinion only, even from expert.

NLP stresses the need to observe within and read cues for authentic understanding of the process.
Listen to yourself; that is where you get your answers.
If you listen to yourself most of the time you will not regret.
The more we are aligned with our self we need not fight with anything inside or outside.
NLP gives you tools to observe your self.

NLP through stories -Story 11

American President Eisenhower was making preparations to visit India, when Nehru was the Prime Minister. A few days prior to the departure he was seriously reading till late night. His wife becoming curios asked Eisenhower what he was seriously reading.
He showed her the book The Discovery Of India” by Jawaharlal Nehru. He said since he was visiting India he wanted to know more about the people & also Nehru so that it would be easy to interact.

It is always better to know about a person and his mental make up before meeting him.
That would help to strike a rapport easily with the person.

One of the pillars of NLP is Rapport.
NLP emphasizes to be in rapport with oneself & others.

Rapport in relationship is marked by cordiality acceptance & trust.
Resistance means lack of rapport.

NLP gives clues & tools to develop RAPPORT instantly.
VRnlp makes it happen.

NLP through stories – story 10

Iswar Chandra Vidyasagar was a great Bengali scholar.
Once he went
to see a drama.
In the play the hero unbearably tortures the heroine.
Vidayasagar witnessing this could not tolerate and jumped on the stage and
started beating the hero with his chappal.

The whole audience was shocked and paralysed by the behavior of this
eminent scholar Iswara Chandra Vidyasagr.

The actor playing hero’s role hugged the chappal & fell at the feet
of Vidyasagar.
Then the actor spoke,
“ I have received many awards & prizes for my acting.
Now in my opinion
none of them is so precious as this chappal.
This chappal would ever remain a
memento;
this memento will keep reminding me that
a great scholar like Iswara
Chandra Vidyasagar
got very impressed with my acting and
took it as real life character.”

In fact the actor felt excited and Vidyasagar felt embarrassed
by his irresistible behavior.

For Vidyasagar in his involvement
he could not differentiate drama & real life.
In his perception it was real
at that moment.  That means his
perception as true characters in real life becomes his reality and so irresistibly
he beats the hero.
Like this experience of VIdyasagar, our mind cannot differentiate between real
& imagination in an ‘uptime ’ (involved state) and perceived reality
becomes real reality.
NLP says in fact we deal only with perceived reality; perception becomes
reality.
There is nothing 100% objective in this manifested world;
every experience is
mixed with subjective element  to a very
lesser or greater degree.
The hero here did not take it
offensive when Vidyasagar beat him with chappal; but rather saw this as a compliment;
he saw the action of Vidyasagar from an empowering angle.
In fact  hero gave a new meaning to the behavior of
Vidyasagar and felt it welcome.
This way of shifting perspective
and giving new meaning
to the behavior in order to move away from
unresourcefulness  to resourcefulness  is called MEANING REFRAMING in NLP
With meaning reframing you can
turn difficulties as opportunities for growth & gain.
VRnlp makes it happen.

NLP through stories – story 9

A cobra went to the saint and complained to him that as soon as people saw him they immediately try to kill him.
It requested the saint to show him a way to escape from the threat.
The saint said,”you are a poisonous snake; so to protect them they try to threaten you;
if they know you wont bite them, they wont kill you. Promise me you wont bite; I will tell the villagers not to try to kill you”
The cobra promised so; the saint informed the villagers accordingly.
Everyone felt relieved;
only for a little while.

Now the snake was in the receiving end.
young boys started pelting stones at the snake for fun and thrill.
The snake was almost losing life gradually; not able to move; not able to eat; very pathetic.
Luckily for the snake the saint passing by that way noticing its pitiable condition enquired for the details;
The snake said,”you are the reason for my plight now; You took a promise from me that I will not bite anyone; so now boys are emboldened to hurt me easily,”

To which the saint replied, ” very sorry about it;  I told you not to bite;  but I did not say you should not raise your hood and hiss to frighten them to protect you”

Raising hood and expressing displeasure is perfectly correct in order to safeguard one’s interest;
broad-mindedness and grace should not become misplaced. Being assertive is important.
also the story highlights another valid point, it is that anything we come to know or learn we need to customize it to suit our need. Only then we can derive real benefit.

The key principle of NLP from this story is –
“Every behavior is useful in some context”

  It is the context that determines the utility of an expression or behavior.
Everything must be evaluated in the context of its happening & not just a blanket evaluation is thrust on it.
Everything is beautiful if it is in the right place.
According to NLP there is nothing inherently postive or negative about anything.
It is either appropriate or inappropriate in a given context.
Go by the context, not simply by some text

NLP through stories – Story 8

The barber in a shop had the
habit of demonstrating an event to his customers.

From the house opposite to his
shop the barber would call a school going boy and ask him, “my boy see on my
left palm I have two coins (1 rupee coin) & on the right palm one coin (5
rupee coin). You can take those coins which has more value?”

The boy invariably was choosing
2 one rupee coins.

The barber would ask immediately
why he chose that way.

The boy would say “two has more
value than one”; so saying he would grab the two one rupee coins and run away.
The barber then would ridicule, “these days boys
don’t have enough brains”

While this was a regular affair,
one day one of the customers later met the boy and wanted to educate him to
take 5 rupee coin than just 2 one rupee coin.

The boy in a hushed tone said,”Promise me
you will not reveal to the barber what I am going to say now”;
there upon the
customer promised and the boy said,
“Even though I know one 5 rupee coin has more value
than 2 one rupee coins;
still I choose because so long as I demonstrate I am
ignorant I will keep getting 2 rupees;
the day I prove my intelligence I will
stop getting money”

One of the NLP principles is
“People make the best choice available to them”
The choice may not be
appropriate according to your understanding
and you may criticize the same;

whereas if you sit with them to understand, you will come to know their wisdom

in choosing a particular behavior or coming to a particular decision.
Like Stephen Covey says “Seek first to understand; then be understood”
Always respect people’s choice.
